Does anybody go to the footy anymore?

An interesting point was brought up on ubersportingpundit: League fans, especially in Sydney, are happier watching the game from the comfort of the lounge with a tinny than in the ground itself. Is this true? I have to admit, with much embarrassment, that my record of watching live league games is rather dismal. Anyone else got anything to say on this? I know the crowd counts are pretty lame, even if pumped up by the NRL and the TV people. Are most of League's fans not residing where games are held? Is Sydney still the hotbed of League it once was? Are we all becoming dazzled by the razzamatazz of the 'Tahs? Or the lean, fit boys at the Swans? Or are we just lazy? What gives?
